The couple met in elementary school and dated briefly in high school. Shone reached out to Shante via Facebook and asked her to go bowling and to dinner to catch up since they hadn’t seen each other since 2003. Shante, who is in the military, lived a state away but agreed. They began going on dates every weekend. After a year and a half together, the pair had dinner and conversations as usual, but Shone seemed a little different. Shante assumed he had just had a busy day. After dinner she began singing “The Closer I Get to You” by Luther Vandross. Shone asked her to dance and told her to keep singing. While looking in her eyes, he asked her to take his car keys out of his pocket. When she pulled out a box, he asked her to be his wife. The ceremony took place at Marina Inn at the Grande Dunes and had a retro, ’50s feel theme. Personal touches included newspaper wedding programs with full details of the ceremony and fun facts about the pair. The couple live in Pawleys Island.
