Katie and Jake both attended Salkehatchie Summer Service, a Methodist-based camp that allows teens and adults to work on homes for the less fortunate. The pair were put on the same site and immediately became friends. The couple dated for two years with Jake in Charlotte and Katie in Columbia before they made the decision to move to Myrtle Beach, Katie’s hometown. After two more years together, Jake took Katie on a walk in Surfside to a park where he and his grandfather used to visit. Crossing a bridge over a small pond, Jake proposed. Katie was so caught off guard she threw everything she had in her hand and said yes. The ceremony was held at Belin Memorial United Methodist Church, followed by a rustic beach reception at the Second Avenue Pier Restaurant. The downstairs was lit with candles and lanterns and guests enjoyed gourmet Southern food and cake, followed by an upstairs open-air bar to enjoy drinks and music by Tru Sol. The pair live in Conway.
