New Directions Fundraiser is September 6 at Avista Resort

New Directions of Horry County is again launching its popular Over the Edge fundraiser on September 6.

The Avista Resort in North Myrtle Beach is once more the setting for this exhilarating, dual enterprise, and as a fundraising event, participants will help further the nonprofit’s mission within our local community.

This is the fourth year of hosting Over the Edge locally, and Angela Fabbri, marketing and development director for New Directions, says this adventure is “giving brave fundraising participants the chance to safely rappel 17 stories (164 feet!) down the oceanfront Avista Resort, all while supporting a great cause!”

In 2024, this event locally raised $65,000.

“We hope to raise $75,000 this year … and last year had a couple hundred spectators coming and going. Everyone is welcome to come watch from the parking lot of the Avista on the side of the building,” she explains. “Every dollar raised helps New Directions provide essential services, like shelter, meals, and support to men, women, and families with children struggling with poverty, homelessness, and addiction. Registration is open now, so sign up today to secure your spot and make a difference!”

People who raise $1,000 will secure their spot on the rappelling ropes. Spectators and others willing to help New Directions with their mission are invited to donate directly to the 501(c)(3) organization. This event is open to all ages. Participants under 18 must be accompanied by a legal guardian.

Put worries aside—all OTE staff are highly trained industrial rope specialists with IRATA or SPRAT certifications and OTE rappel rigs are set up to meet OSHA requirements.
