PGA Event returns to Town

Despite a slightly smaller coterie of competitors than the past two years, the third annual Myrtle Beach Classic golf tournament is set to be the most engaging rivalry yet.
Scheduled for May 7-10, the PGA Tour event will take place once again at the legendary Dunes Golf & Beach Club.
The field size will be 120 players, about a dozen fewer than in the past two years.
“The ONEflight Myrtle Beach Classic has a commitment from the TOUR for four years, but tournament officials are already thinking about the future, and wanting more,” notes tournament director Darren Nelson. “We will continue to do everything we can to elevate this event year over year, with the hope that this will be just the beginning of professional golf on the Grand Strand.”
The Classic has proven to be an economic boon for the Grand Strand.
According to Destinations International, last year’s tourney generated almost $16 million for the area—in spite of rainy weather and slightly fewer spectators (36,000) than the inaugural 2024 event (40,000).
“Infusing $31.2 million into the Grand Strand economy over the past two years is incredibly rewarding,” Nelson states. “It not only supports local businesses… but generates additional tax income that ultimately improves the destination and enhances the quality of life for residents.”
Spectators at the Myrtle Beach Classic can also see well-known celebrities.
“We expect to have many notable celebrities play again in our Wednesday Pro-Am this year. Last year we were fortunate to have Bill Murray, Kurt Russell, Kevin Costner, Rob Riggle, Vanna White, and others be a part of the event,” says Nelson.
Also, he adds, “This year’s new concert series will showcase three local bands performing Thursday through Saturday, with the stage returning to the scenic Ocean Lawn.”
