South Carolina rockers return home for annual charity event

Darius, Mark, Dean and Soni, otherwise known as Hootie and the Blowfish, return to Myrtle Beach in early April for the group’s annual Monday After the Masters Celebrity Pro-Am party at the Dye Club at Barefoot Resort.

A new twist to this year’s event is that the “Mike & Mike in the Morning” radio show will be broadcast live from the clubhouse, from 6-10 a.m. that morning. The show airs on ESPN Radio and ESPN2 television with hosts Mike Golic and Mike Greenberg.

The celebrities scheduled to join Hootie and the Blowfish at this year’s event are NASCAR drivers Michael Waltrip and Kyle Petty; singers Josh Kelley, Edwin McCain, Colt Ford and Johnny Lee; and current and former professional athletes Jim McMahon, Tyler Thigpen, George Rogers, Sterling Sharp and Mickey Tettleton.

Jim Furyk, John Daly and Chris DeMarco lead the list of professional golfers slated to play, which also includes the Grand Strand’s own Dustin Johnson and Kristy McPherson.

Proceeds from Monday After the Masters are given to the Hootie and the Blowfish Foundation, which in part benefits the South Carolina Junior Golf Association. The event has raised more than $4 million since its inception in 1995.
