Grand Strand entrepreneurs combine a passion for
baking with their love for barking

If you thought bakeries were exclusive to homo sapiens, think again. Tracy Johnson’s and Paul Reynold’s passion for making healthy treats crosses over to the animal world, and they are providing a unique way for dog lovers across the nation to give man’s best friend some love—all from their home in Myrtle Beach.

Tracy started baking dog biscuits twelve years ago in her small pet bakery, Bone Appetit, but when Paul came on the scene, the entrepreneurial team made some changes. Paul dreamed about the things they could do through the Web, and The Baker’s Dog was born in the fall of 2008. The North Myrtle Beach bakery slowly but surely turned into an online business where dog owners far and wide can order delicious treats for their furry friends and even have the packages customized with pictures of their pups.

Now, even though the team doesn’t have a physical location, patrons can conveniently upload pictures to The Baker’s Dog site and have dog treats shipped to their home. To order treats even more easily, Paul and Tracy are working on an iPhone app that will allow owners to take pictures and upload them directly to The Baker’s Dog.

What’s so special about these treats? Well, for starters, the biscuits have no added salt, sugar, or preservatives, so they are better for man’s best friend. Also, all flavors including, but not limited to, apple cinnamon, cheese pizza, lamb and rice, and peanut butter and honey are made with ingredients any human would eat, so you know they are good for your pooch.

And that—dog owners—is something to bark about.
