Those looking for a family-friendly, old-fashioned festival need look no further than the 45th annual Aynor Hoe-Down, set for September 20th.
Sponsored by the Pilot Club of Aynor, and spanning several blocks around Aynor Town Park and Main Street, this free event is one of the longest-running festivals in Horry and surrounding counties.
“We are still planning for a great parade, good food, and plenty of booths, musical entertainment during the day, and face painting, inflatables and booths with items for the kids,” notes festival coordinator Phyllis Morrison. “We will have some really neat and different items this year.”
This one-day event annually sees upwards of 25,000 people, and very early, at the end of May, there were already 60 vendors signed up; visitors can expect around 190 of them by the Hoe-Down’s actual date.
“I have some great booths already in: license plate strip signs, beautiful handmade bags for the ladies, cowboy hats, unusual wreaths, Rosie, a pink bus with indoor plants, neat homemade soaps, boutique clothing, crochet items, homemade candles, antique china plates with sayings, resin and wood treasures, epoxy woodworking (chess sets, serving boards), and wood circles with palmetto tree and moon, among many others,” she says.
There will also be multiple marching school bands, floats, mascots, a grand marshal, and lots more, including food – lots and lots of food.
Expect boiled peanuts, chicken bog, BBQ, hamburgers and hotdogs, baked goods, fish and shrimp dinners, Chick-fil-A, philly cheesesteak sandwiches, ice cream, iced coffee and fruit smoothies, tacos, quesadillas, wraps and taco salads, and Little Caesar's Pizza, plus other offerings.
