Carlie Mills & Bryn Allen

The couple met when they were set up on a blind date by mutual friends. The spark between them was overpowering, and it hasn’t fizzled yet. After a year and half together, Bryn surprised Carlie by proposing at “their spot” on the Pitt Street Bridge in Mount Pleasant, which offers a beautiful view of the Holy City skyline. The ceremony was in the courtyard overlooking the marsh at DeBordieu in Georgetown, where Carlie grew up. She found a gown off the rack at Fancy Frocks that needed minor alterations, which were done by her mother and grandmother. Their motto for planning was “sweet, simple, sentimental.” And it was—from the invitation calligraphy by Carlie’s sister to the DJ who is a close friend. Carlie is a writer and a lifelong lover of literature, so “literature and love” served as the theme, with whitewashed books, handpicked quotes for the seating chart and book art made from small folded pages. It all culminated into a one-of-a-kind atmosphere that was entirely unique to the greatest love story the pair has ever known—their own. Carlie and Bryn live in Mount Pleasant.
