While we are still finding many events postponed or rescheduled as we head into the later summer months, one great activity to add to your list is a visit to the Horry County Museum or their L.W. Paul Living History Farm.

The Museum, situated near downtown Conway in the renovated 1905 Burroughs School, focuses on the history, pre-history and natural history of Horry County. They work to educate the public through their exhibits, and the building itself is on the National Register of Historic Places. Exhibits at the Museum range from household items and clothing to farming tools to wildlife photographs and specimens. A highlight is the giant freshwater aquarium, which was featured on the hit Animal Planet reality show Tanked and offers the chance to see fixtures of aquatic life from local lakes and rivers.

If getting outdoors for some hands-on learning is more your speed, consider a trip out to the Museum’s L.W. Paul Living History Farm (2279 Harris Short Cut Road). Opened in 2009, the Farm recreates life on a one-horse family farm between the years of 1900 and 1955. See what it was like living during this era and observe activities that would have regularly occurred in this setting in the not-so-distant past.
