Try these wines to fire up your summer cookout

Wölffer Estate Summer in a Bottle Rosé 2015

Long Island, New York, $19

This winery opened in the Hamptons in 1987 and now makes wine and cider from locally grown grapes and apples. The eye-popping package makes this bottle easy to pick up, but don’t let that fool you: This is a serious rosé. With lively acidity, the fruitiness and bold flavors make it an easy match for grilled or barbecued chicken and vegetables on a skewer.

Tournon Mathilda Victorian Rosé 2015

Australia, $14

Aussie rosés are getting more popular, with examples like this from M. Chapoutier, a trusted French producer. Bright and light, made from the sturdy, flavorful Grenache grape. Serve this rosé with barbecued foods and spiced seafoods. Organically grown and earned an 88 point rating from Wine Spectator.

Terrazas de los Andes Reserva Malbec 2013

Argentina, $17

The rich, hearty character of the Malbec grape makes it the first choice in Argentina, due to the popularity of asado, or barbecue cooking. Raspberry and cherry notes, with hints of coffee and chocolate. Fine tannins and luxurious finish. Smoky, charcoal aromas make this wine easy to pair with beef empanadas, skirt steak and skewered meats.

Charles & Charles Red Blend 2014

Washington, $12

Operating the second largest urban winery in North America, Charles Smith is a renegade winemaker producing great wines at value prices. This blend is mostly Cabernet and complements any grilled red meat, with dried herb, cherry and plum flavors. Rated 91 points by Wine Spectator.

Pierre Andre Bourgogne Chardonnay Reserve 2014

Burgundy, France, $14

Chardonnay is the first choice for white wine with barbecue dishes and this example from Burgundy is stainless steel fermented for a pure, flavorful taste profile. Served with lobster or calamari on the grill, it’s a perfect combination. This version is medium-bodied but full-flavored with a hint of flint, touch of oak and lemony acid finish.
