As part of the always-expanding Kings Highway restaurant scene, Brixx Wood Fired Pizza is among the newest establishments to call the north end of Myrtle Beach home. What sat as an open, sandy lot for decades is now the location for the newest in the 40-store Brixx family chain.

As the name implies, wood-fired pizza is Brixx’s specialty, but the modern eatery knows that demanding patrons require more than a one-size-fits-all approach to dining. Opened in May 2018, Brixx rounds out its 10-inch handcrafted pizza selections with a huge assortment of starters and entrees, including the hummus trio with wood-fired pita chips, the Korean BBQ meatballs, the wood-fired chicken wings (not fried), nine salads, a variety of sandwiches and pasta options, and a Sunday Brunch (11 a.m. – 3 p.m.) with egg and sausage dishes.

Not your mama’s pizza joint, an open-air concept with alfresco patio seating blends into the air-conditioned interior loaded with booths, tables and a sizeable bar. A happy hour with some really terrific prices on beer, wine and liquor has already helped Brixx establish a loyal local following. Craft beer lovers may choose from dozens of tap and bottled choices. An impressive wine list, specialty cocktails, and a solid assortment of bourbons, whiskeys and the like are a surprise to many who don’t expect a humble pizza place’s alcohol selection to be so versatile. Hint: Every Sunday all wine is half price, all day.

General manager and operating partner Jason Word is a long-time Myrtle Beach resident and restaurateur. He’s often seen greeting guests, making his rounds, and answering questions about the menu. “I tell folks to try the Blackened Chicken Penne Pasta, which is my personal favorite,” he said, “but if they’re in the mood for pizza, I love the Korean Pepper Steak Pizza or the Bourbon Chicken Pizza.” Some 20 additional pizzas include multiple combinations of veggie, meat, gluten-free and classics. Two more Brixx restaurants are slated to open in the area in 2019 and 2020.
