“Belonging Through Books”

He’s the author of the novels The New Naturals (2023) and Everywhere You Don’t Belong (2020), which was named a New York Times Book Review Notable Book of 2020, an Electric Lit Favorite Novel of 2020, and won the Ernest J. Celebrating The Shag: 40 Years as South Carolina’s State Dance

Journey to downtown North Myrtle Beach, the birthplace of The Shag, to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the Shag becoming the state dance of South Carolina. Families are encouraged to come down to the Main Street Horseshoe to listen to live music, shop, and dance til’ you drop. Kick back and unwind with us in your beach chair on Main Street. Main Street will be restricted to pedestrian traffic only from Ocean Boulevard to the ocean side of Melt Ice Cream and to the ocean side of Main Street Sweets. Concert goers may bring chairs to sit in this area to listen to the concert. “Waitress”

Theatre of the Republic presents “Waitress”, based on the book, film and Broadway musical. It’s based on the life of Jenna, a waitress and expert pie maker who’s in a loveless marriage and living in a small town. Unexpectedly pregnant, Jenna worries that she’ll never be able to open her own pie shop, until a nearby county’s baking contest offers hope, as does a handsome doctor. Featuring an eccentric, but lovable crew of servers, along with loyal customers, Jenna finds newfound courage. Come see the TOR’s stellar version of the story that took America by storm.

Rebirth Brass Band – Music on the Lawn

For nearly 40 years, the Rebirth Brass Band has been engaging fans with energetic live performances and a rich musical catalog. The group’s trademark and unique sound pays homage to the New Orleans brass band and tradition, combining jazz, funk, soul, R&B, and music from the streets. Founding brothers Phil and Keith Frazier kicked off their career by playing on the sidewalks of the French Quarter and quickly landed gigs at second line parades. Rebirth has collaborated and shared the stage with The Grateful Dead, Red Hot Chili Peppers, James Brown, the Neville Brothers, and many more. Apex Trail Run

Celebrating its second year, this event, presented by Apex Promoz, takes place at the Horry County Panther Run trail. This year, a new trail location has been added to make the event even more exciting. The Apex Trail Run offers two options: a 5K run or walk, and a 6-hour laps challenge. The 5K race will have a competitive heat and a non-competitive heat, allowing faster participants to start ahead of the larger group. Registration is limited to 350 participants. The 6-hour laps challenge will start at 7:50 a.m. and continue running the 5K course until the 1:50 p.m. cut-off time. The winner will be the person who completes the most laps in the shortest time. Awards will be given for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place in both male and female categories. Each runner must start their last lap by 1:30 p.m. The trails are beginner-friendly and flat, but still provide a unique challenge with switchbacks and grassy surfaces. All participants will receive a t-shirt and a commemorative finisher’s medal. Myrtle Beach Rotary Club Mini Golf Tournament

Free Children’s Program at the L.W. Paul Living History Farm

Join us Saturday, April 20th, for a free 30 minute activity at the Farm! Parents can sign children up for a half hour session between 9 AM-11 AM. Group sizes will be limited. Art in the Park

Earth Day Festival

What better place to celebrate Earth Day than Brookgreen Gardens? Visitors will gather at the field across from the Leonard Pavilion for a day filled with fun and education   for all ages. Adults will learn more about native plants and conservation, while children explore S.T.E.A.M. stations to complete their Earth Day passports. The day will include meet and greets with live animal ambassadors, Community Conservation Partners’ Stations, and exciting games that help families become more aware of the natural environment and fundamental conservation principles.
